Memorials records the poignant remains of little shelters, or ‘howffs’, dotted along the Afton Glen in New Cumnock. These rough ‘bields’ were built by miners during the Miner’s Strike to provide shelter from the weather when they went walking up the Glen to pass the time whilst on strike.
